Friendship for seniors in Indiana

Make a friend and a big difference for seniors in Northwest Indiana!

“I can’t remember the last time I got out. I can’t remember the last time I had fun like this,” said a 92-year-old guest at the Northwest Indiana Winter Celebration.

Volunteers can make a difference every day in the life of isolated seniors. Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly expanded into Northwest Indiana to bring friendship to seniors who are living without support from friends or family.

Instead of spending their days alone, not knowing when they’ll have a real conversation or spend time with a friend, our elders have socialization and connection opportunities to look forward to. Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly hosts events especially for seniors and matches seniors with visiting volunteers to form lasting, meaningful friendships. With the help of community partners and volunteers, we have begun to offer services to lonely and isolated seniors who reside in Crown Point, Gary, Hammond, Hobart, Merrillville, and Schererville, IN.

• Volunteer!
It doesn’t take a lot of time to make a big difference in an elder’s life. As a visiting volunteer, you can dedicate just two hours a month to socializing with an elder one-on-one. You can also assist with driving elders to celebrations, ensuring an elder is able to enjoy an afternoon surrounded by friends, and helping to prepare for events, parties or outings. Sign up today for an upcoming orientation!

• Refer an elder!
Do you know a person age 70 or older who seems to be going through life alone? A homebound neighbor who never seems to have any visitors? An elderly person alone on the same bench every afternoon? If you know of a senior who would benefit from our programs and friendship, or you are a senior aging alone in Crown Point, Gary, Hammond, Hobart, Merrillville, or Schererville, please contact us.

• Donate!
Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly is a private, nonprofit organization. We do not receive government funding and are not a United Way member agency. We’re developing our programs in Northwest Indiana, and we continue to offer more services as we gain more elders and volunteers. Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly is deeply excited by the expansion from Chicago to Northwest Indiana.
