Relieving isolation and loneliness among the elderly
Along with our visiting programs and our parties, we reach out to elders in many ways. All of these programs have been created in response to the suggestions of volunteers, staff, and elders who saw an opportunity for Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly to improve the quality of life for isolated seniors.

Every month we provide food bags at no charge to about 100 elders who would not otherwise be able to afford nutritious food. Each food bag is custom packed in our food pantry, focusing on the dietary restrictions and personal taste of the elder who will receive it. Bags are delivered by volunteers as part of a friendly visit. Each Food Bag Delivery contains enough food for a weeks’ worth of meals.
Our Social Worker provides information and support to elders, staff and volunteers, connecting elders with vital resources in the community.
In extremely hot or cold weather, we reach out to vulnerable elders to make sure that they are comfortable, safe and well-prepared. When necessary, we install donated air conditioners or fans in the homes of those in need.
Sometimes the elders we serve need help with errands, grocery shopping, or other everyday tasks. We may also provide transportation to appointments, help elders with small household tasks, and do many of the things that friends do.
Our Movie Club and Creative Cafe meet monthly, providing a hot meal, some snacks and the chance to create something new or watch a beloved film with peers and volunteers who enjoy similar interests.
The Lloyd Walding Brain Fitness Center offers programs and opportunities to keep the mind sharp! From board games, to Wii games, to a special computer program designed to improve memory, the Brain Fitness Center is filled with tools and volunteers to strengthen your brain. The Brain Fitness Center is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 2pm.
Every Thursday, Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly hosts elders and volunteers in our Herrera Family Cafe. Coffee, treats and conversation are a great way to spend time with friends. Drop us an email for more information. We’d love you to join us for a cup of coffee and some friendly conversation!
